Day 3: First Full Day in Dublin!

We began our day by visiting the emigration museum, the first part of the museum was about the history of the emigration of Ireland and the conflict, and in the second part of the museum, we learned about the culture of Ireland, such as the music, the food, and the sports. The building for this museum was made out of glass, and there was advanced technology inside such as touch screens, which made things engaging.

After visiting the museum and lunch, we walked over to the Trinity College, and had a tour. During the tour, we learned the backstories for many of the buildings on the campus. Our tour guide also told us that there is a superstition that when a student walks underneath the bell tower while the bell is ringing, they will not to well on their tests, which is why there were not many students walking underneath it. After the tour, we went inside the Old Library and saw The Book of Kells, and a massive long library with a beautiful high ceiling and was filled with tons of old books.

After leaving the college, we walked over to Dublin Castle which was built by Vikings. This Castle is the reason why Dublin got its name, because there was black coloured water around the castle and Dublin is the Gaelic way to say black water. We also got to see the rooms in the palace which were fancy and filled with large paintings of portraits. We learned that the colour for Ireland is blue, and shade of blue is called St. Patrick’s blue.

Today was our first full day in Dublin, and we got to go to three attractions, all in walking distance from our apartment. We got to walk along a river this morning to get to the first museum, and it was nice to take in the scenery along the way. It was interesting how the buildings are a combination of historic and modern, and how there were many seagulls flying around filling the air with their unique sound. So far this trip has been such an amazing experience and it has only just begun.
